In an op-ed column printed in several greater Minnesota newspapers, CGMC senior policy analyst Steve Peterson takes a hard look at the state’s budget woes and urges candidates for governor to come forward with detailed solutions. With the state facing a $5.8 billion deficit, Minnesotans deserve detailed answers on how candidates for governor will close the budget gap, said the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman today at a press event as they unveiled a new website that will allow candidates and everyday Minnesotans to do precisely that.
Greater MN papers in accord: All candidates need to address rural issues
Last Thursday, CGMC held a gubernatorial candidate forum during its annual summer conference in Winona. In a statementissued on Tuesday, CGMC President Tim Strand, Mayor of St. Peter, thanked candidates Tom Horner and Mark Dayton for accepting the organization’s invitation, and expressed disappointment that Rep. Tom Emmer declined the opportunity to address rural issues at the forum. Rep. Emmer’s choice sparked spirited discussion among greater Minnesota editorial boards.
